About Me
I was born in Brazil, and I began my musical studies at the age of four. In 1973 my family moved to Portugal, and I had the opportunity to study at the Lisbon National Conservatory. In 1976 my family moved to Toronto, and there, I completed all theory and piano requirements at the Toronto Conservatory of Music.
I went on to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Voice and Piano performance at Walla Walla College, where I studied piano with acclaimed teacher Leonard Richter and voice with Dr. Marianne Scriven. I received a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Northern Illinois University under pianist Donald Walker, and recently received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Washington, where I studied with world-renowned pianist, Craig Shepard.
I have worked with Pacific Northwest Ballet and Houston Ballet as accompanist and performer. I have appeared as solo pianist with the Rainier Symphony, the Port Angeles Symphony, the Seattle Philharmonic, and the Skagit Symphony. I have worked with the Bellevue Chamber Chorus, The Northwest Girl Choir, The Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra, The Seattle Suzuki Institute, and The Seattle Choral Company, with whom I recorded Carmina Burana in 1999. I am also active in Chamber Music, and my latest appearance was at the Bellingham Music Festival with the extremely talented violinist Roman Yearian. I have also worked with the Seattle Opera, the Seattle Symphony Chorus, and the Intiman Theater. Besides these professional pursuits, I have over 25 years of experience in teaching piano and voice.
